Advocacy

Introducing the Push the Envelope, Please Campaign

Imagine a world full of art that looks directly and deeply at women's lives - a world where you could go to a movie, turn on your TV, or attend a play and know that you would see strong female characters grappling with real situations. The Fund for Women Artists is leading a campaign to create that world, and we invite you to join us.

In summer 2006 we introduced a new section of our website dedicated to our Push the Envelope, Please campaign.  You can watch our new 8 minute video online, read about the campaign, organize an event using our new online Party Host Center, take a trivia quiz, or make a gift.

Please send your advocacy comments or questions to The Fund for Women Artists at:  info@WomenArts.com

The Issues

The WomenArts Advocacy Program works to create lasting change in the broader culture by mobilizing women artists and their supporters on four major issues that affect the working lives of women artists.  Click on a topic below for more details and recent campaigns on the issue:

  • Employment and diversity in media and the arts - Sign the Women Count! petition urging theatres to employ more women playwrights and directors, and get the facts about employment of women in theatre, film, and video. Read More>>
  • Ownership of the media - Support efforts to preserve media diversity and stop the Federal Communications Commission from creating more media monopolies. Read More>>
  • Free expression for artists and all Americans - Find out about the portions of the USA Patriot Act that restrict our freedom to read. Read More>>
  • International Issues - Learn about the Women Playwrights International Conference held in Manila in November 2003 and about artists working for world peace.  Read More>>
