Building off of the success of last year’s inaugural standing-room only event, SWAN Day Dayton 2013 will be held on Saturday March 30th at 2pm at the Dayton Metro Library Main Branch Auditorium at 215 E. Third St., Dayton, Ohio.

The celebration of Ohio female artists is free and will include short films, plays, readings by authors and live music. There is also a SWAN exhibit of works by women visual artists which is on display at the Main Library all month.

SWAN Day Dayton is produced Stacey Lane, a 32-year-old playwright from Miamisburg, Ohio with Dara Cosby.  Lane reports that twice as many artists auditioned this year as last year. Seventeen short acts will be included in the 2-hour event which is co-sponsored this year by the Dayton Metro Library and Joy Schwab.

One of the treats of the afternoon will be the short film, “The Happiest Day of His Life“, directed by Ursula Burton of Five Sisters Productions, a film production company run by the five Burton sisters (Ursula, Maria, Jennifer, Gabrielle, and Charity), who were originally from Ohio. The film is a role-reversing spoof on classic wedding films like “Father of the Bride.”  In this award-winning comedy a woman drops to her knee to propose, and then the groom’s father helps his son plan his wedding day. The film uses humor to challenge traditional gender roles.

The live music at SWAN Day Dayton will include R&B singer and songwriter Adriane Caffey, rapper Kim Gerhold, musicians from Knotwork Flutes, and singer/guitarist Talianna LeVangie.  There will also be poetry and short plays, including one by Stacey Lane.  The complete list of artists participating in SWAN Day Dayton is at: http://swandaydayton.blogspot.com/
