American Composers Orchestra Present New coLABoratory Project, Judith Shatin’s Black Moon

| FreeComposer Judith Shatin will be joined by George Manahan and members of the orchestra in a demonstration of Kinect, a motion sensing input device for computer controlled electronics. This will be demonstrated musically through a sketch entitled Red Moon of how this technology will be used for her ACO commission Black Moon, to be premiered in our October 28, 2016 at Zankel Hall (Carnegie Hall). Also, Judith’s For The Birds for amplified cello and electronics with birdsong from the Yellowstone region will be performed.
Workshop and performance starting at 2:00pm at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, 450 West 37th Street in New York, NY, followed by a hands-on demonstration for audience members.

Called “highly inventive…hugely enjoyable and deeply involving” by the Washington Post and “exuberant and captivating” by the San Francisco Chronicle, Judith Shatin’s music is renowned for its dramatic shape and imaginative blending of acoustic and digital media, as well as her work in each. Orchestras that have performed her music include the Denver, Houston, Virginia, Illinois, Knoxville, Minnesota, National and Richmond Symphonies. Her chamber and choral music is internationally performed and has been featured at festivals throughout North America and Europe. She has been commissioned by organizations and ensembles including the Barlow Foundation, Fromm Foundation, Kronos Quartet, Library of Congress, National Symphony, the Dutch Hexagon Ensemble, the Peninsula Women’s Chorus and the San Francisco Girls’ Chorus.
Innova Records has issued Judith Shatin’s Time to Burn CD, with a combination of chamber and electroacoustic music performed by the Cassatt Quartet, violist James Dunham, pianist Margaret Kampmeier and others. Her music can also be heard on the Ravello, Etcetera, Capstone, Centaur, Neuma, New World and Sonora labels. She is currently William R.
