Evening of Dance: Part of Athena Project’s 2016 Arts Festival

March 26, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

| $12 – $15

An “Evening of Dance”, co-curated by choreographers Lauren Beale and Caitlin Brozna-Smith, will be an interpretation of this year’s festival theme, “Ghosts of Us”, and the methods by which women convey art and expression in our society. From Belly Dance to contemporary and Dance Movement Therapy to tap dance, each dance style carries with it the wisdom gained from the trials and triumphs from generations of women who created these dances to express and reflect our growth from women who have come before us. The dancers’ bodies are conduits for creativity, passion, and perseverance, and their generosity of spirit allows us to experience these things with them.

Choreographers will meet ahead of time for collaborating and networking in February showing pieces they have created, inspired by the theme Ghosts of Us. At that time, they will receive feedback on their work from their peers and then will have another 30 days to incorporate the suggestions/put the finishing touches on the piece.

This evening of dance will culminate in community dialogue about the choreographed pieces and how they can serve as our guides by reminding us of the limitless capabilities of the human heart.

The works will be premiered at the studio space at Armstrong Center for Dance, for an evening celebrating dance on March 26 at 8pm, followed by a community dialogue and reception.

Tickets $15, $12 for students/seniors/military
