LOCAL ARTISTS JOIN INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATION OF WOMEN ARTISTS On Saturday, April 2nd., 2016, Elaine Mendez Ent. is pleased to announce that S.W.A.N. Day Staten Island 2016 will be held at the ArtLab, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, N.Y. 10301 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. In collaboration with Executive Director for ArtLab, LynnAnne O’Conner, S.W.A.N. DAY STATEN ISLAND 2016 is a celebration honoring local women artists and their contributions to our community through their art forms. Located on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center, the Artlab is housed in Building  H,  along Chapel Road.

Highlights of the day include: Filmed Artist Interviews by Liz Marotti and Camille Schmoeker, Artist Exhibition, Motivational Speaking and Workshops led by Samantha Popp and Pamela Hernandez, as well as expanded programming for young girls (12— 18 years of age) in several themed workshops—”Living Your Dreams”, and a Special Women’s Panel Discussion on the Arts. S.W.A.N. Day Tote Bags and visors created by clothing designer, Dave Nudelman of Stereotypeco will be given away to workshop par- ticipants.

As in years past, the multidisciplinary event encourages impromptu performance by at- tendees and will feature the following artists: published author Poet Palma Mingozzi accompanied with music by June Palo, Poet Marilyn Kiss, musical performances by duo Rachel Isaacs and Noel Catti, Joan Caddell, Queen Tipsy (Phyllis Forman), a dance per- formance by Florence Poulain and the Butoh Dancers. Celebrants will also have the op- portunity to share their most recent and upcoming projects, join in the one day Artist Exhibition and all are encouraged to bring any literature for the afternoon’s event. Raf- fles of free first time introductory lessons offered by other female artist run businesses are being held. Light refreshments will be served.

This event is part of an international celebration of women artists whose acronym, S.W.A.N., stands for “Support Women Artists Now”. Originated by WomenArts (Womenarts.org) , this holiday takes place on the last Saturday of Women’s History Month in March and the surrounding weeks.
