Art Party & Fundraiser for “The Last Straw” by Bryant Holsenbeck

April 22, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Bryant Holsenbeck is an environmental artist in Durham, NC, who makes art out of stuff people usually throw away. Some years ago, she got curious about where “away” was and discovered that there is no away. There is only out of sight. She has been making art out of recycled materials ever since in an attempt to draw people’s attention to how much we throw away and to encourage individuals and communities to be better stewards of the environment.

Children and adults who make art with Holsenbeck or who view her installations often come away transformed. In making art or watching waste become art, people are inspired and empowered to make their own individual and collective commitments to full circle recycling.

The Resource Center for Women and Ministry in the South is teaming up with Bryant to publish a book, The Last Straw, her blog about the year she learned to live without single-use plastic. We want to share Bryant’s philosophy and work with the wider world. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to support the design and publication of the book.

Please come to the party and learn more about the project.
