Congratulations to the women and men of SWAN Day Kenya who are doing their 11th SWAN festival in Nairobi this year!
The theme of SWAN Day Kenya 2018 is Closing the Gap: Connecting Artists, and over 70 female artists will participate in the day-long festival this year. There will be two sets of panel discussions in addition to many performances by musicians, poets, spoken word artists, acrobats, dancers, and more.
The featured artists include Eclay Wangira, a popular Kenyan television actress; Chela, a graffiti artist who has broken into the male world of graffiti art and is working to help other women do the same; Joan Aluoch Otieno, who creates art from recycled materials; Zawadi Kayyoh, a five-year old singing sensation; Demba Ochenga, who plays the traditional Nyatiti; Mary Mafuti, a renowned Afro-fusion artist; and Montra Percussionists, an all-female drumming group. These are just a few of the many artists who will participate.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 31 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Sadili Oval Sports & Talent Academy, Off Kitengela road, Langata, Nairobi, 00100 Kenya.
