A free screening of the powerful new documentary “Girl Rising” will be offered as a joint SWAN event by New York Women in Film & Television, SAG-AFTRA, School of Visual Arts Film Department, Women in the Arts & Media Coalition, and HerFlix at the School of Visual Arts Theater, 333 W 23rd Street, New York on Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m.
“Girl Rising” is at the center of 10 x 10, a social action campaign that seeks to eliminate extreme poverty by insuring that girls have access to education around the world. The project represents a new paradigm in social-issue filmmaking where a high-quality feature-length film was specifically created by 10 x 10 as a tool to increase public awareness of the issue and to build a global movement to demand equal opportunity for girls.
“Girl Rising” focuses on 9 girls in 9 different countries who are struggling to obtain their educations. Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Priyanka Chopra, Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, Alicia Keys, and other celebrated actors contribute voice performances to the film. After the screening, there will be a conversation with Tara Abrahams (10×10 Deputy Director) and Kayce Freed Jennings (Senior Producer, 10×10, and EVP, DocGroup).
