After a year of exploring Shakespeare for our young audiences, BTE returns to the tried and true TIC format of bringing to life a bit of history and sharing it with elementary and middle school students and their teachers. Through the use of clever props, narrative, and audience participation, BTE will focus on the friendship and the world-changing work of these two women that led to the passage of the 19th Amendment ensuring women the right to vote.
From the creator and director, Elizabeth Dowd:
“We’ve done so many great TICs that focus on the achievements of men. I was eager to bring that same focus to important women who have shaped our world. I was drawn to these two women because their world-changing work towards the passage of the 19th Amendment ensuring women the right to vote, was the result of a long and deep friendship. My life has been shaped and enriched by many strong women who have shown me a better way to be through the gift of long friendship.
As I research and imagine this project, I hold close to my heart the image of young children in the audience who will recognize the power that people share through our friendships.”
ABOUT TIC: TIC tours adaptations of world folk literature and history to elementary schools, as well as middle schools, libraries, and community centers across Pennsylvania and beyond.
It serves as a tool for curriculum enhancement and a unique opportunity for students to discover the world from other perspectives.
What’s the story about TIC?
TIC shows are presented in an animated story-theatre style featuring imaginative props, costumes, music, and student participation followed by a lively post-performance discussion.
Professional actors play multiple characters and create different locations and moods through the imaginative use of props and costumes
Call and response student participation promotes basic group behavior skills, such as listening and watching
A pre-show Study Guide allows teachers to maximize the educational value of the theatre experience by providing discussion ideas, related classroom activities, post-performance questions, and bibliography.
