Lake Lady EP Release, 3/25/2016 (online)
March 25, 2016 @ 12:00 pm
My Lake Lady debut EP, Better Day, is available for pre-order on bandcamp now at http://lakelady.bandcamp.com. You can stream and download the first single, “Will Your Feelings Change?” The rest of the songs and bonus materials (including a collection of poems by Oakland writers) will be released on 3/25/2016. If you pre-order, you’ll receive the digital downloads and entire EP the moment they are released in March.
In the meantime, I’ll be posting music videos, show info and other exciting things leading up to the release on this event page. If I missed anyone, please invite them. Facebook is limiting the number of invites one can send now (for shame!). So if you could share this event as well to help get the word out that would be awesome. Your support is always appreciated. Let’s do this 🙂
BIO: A worldly musical soul at heart, Oakland-based Charise Sowells – under the moniker of Lake Lady – is combining styles past and present to create a refreshingly modern new sound that holds your attention from start to finish. With influences ranging from the chilled-out trip hop of Massive Attack and Portishead to the blues stylings of Billie Holiday, Lake Lady is ready to take 2016 by storm with her brand new EP titled Better Day.
A multi-faceted talent, Sowells has a hugely accomplished background including film, television and event planning. She has worked as a Production Coordinator (PBS’s Cyberchase), Production Assistant (TLC’s Randy to the Rescue, SundanceTV’s Brick City), and as a Managing Director at The L.A. Little Theater in Santa Monica. Sowells later joined The Deli Magazine’s Austin branch as an Editor and Event Planner, where she partnered with the Good Music Club and KUTX’s Laurie Gallardo to stage Get Schooled!, a showcase featuring the best up-and-coming music acts in the area.
Sowells has also made her mark in the music industry with a variety of acts. Her extensive experience includes touring nationally as Grayson Wray Project’s lead vocalist and synth player, performing the 2012 Art Outside festival with dream-pop group Notsolow, and even playing abroad in France for the Fete de la Musique (World Music Day) with her groove-pop duo Lake Lady and the Mountain Man.
Now armed with haunting electronica-filled beats to match her soulful crooning, Lake Lady is quickly blazing her path to the top. She has collaborated with a myriad of electronic producers including Ado Mass, DJ Lee Kalt, Ghost Youth, Quando, and many more. Already featured on several influential radio stations including Women of Substance and Music City Radio – who say she’s “establishing Oakland as an important cultural hub for Bay Area music” – she is quickly attracting numerous fans to her mesmerizing new project.
Co-produced with Midnite Tiger, Lake Lady’s Better Day EP is set to release in March 2016. At times haunting and always bursting with soul, these five songs see Sowells paying loving tribute to her influences while crafting a sound that is entirely her own. Stay tuned for more song and music video releases coming soon.
