Reclaiming the Black Swan
March 30, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
| $10.00Impromptu No Tutu, the resident dance company of Albany Senior Center, will be celebrating SWAN Day and Dance Anywhere Day simultaneously! We will create spontaneous bird dances, improvising in and around the Senior Center, first engaging the staff and lobby visitors, and then moving to the front garden and the Greenway across the street.
We are inspired by the archetype of the Black Swan, often portrayed as an evil temptress in traditional stories. Our embrace of this character will stretch in new directions, allowing us to discover what eternal qualities or essences are most true for ourselves personally, when taking on the form of a powerful black bird through dance.
Participants can branch out from swans to other totem birds such as the owl (associated with Minerva), the raven (a trickster in many Native American traditions), the crow, vulture or cormorant, or compose an imaginary creature. All are invited to bring short poetry, literature or images on this theme and to (optionally) wear black and bring glittery accessories–head pieces, hats, veils, wings, elbow-length gloves, streamers.
Please join us for a festive and rich exploration of ourselves and our avian kin!
