The God Game
February 16, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm
| $15 – $18THE GOD GAME by Suzanne Bradbeer, directed by June Guralnick, is a searing, often funny drama about three people grappling with the role of faith in their lives. Tom, a popular Senator from Virginia, is offered the opportunity to run as Vice President for an ultra-Conservative Presidential candidate who wants Tom to vocally espouse his Christianity.
The hitch is that Tom has become an agnostic – partly as a result of the death of his brother, Jay. The story is further complicated by Tom’s wife, Lisa – whose life centers around her devout Christian faith – as well as Tom and Lisa’s best friend, Matt. Matt, who works for the Presidential candidate, visits the couple to pressure Tom to get on board; Matt also happens also to be the ex-lover of Tom’s dead brother, Jay.
THE GOD GAME unfolds as these three characters confront their shared history, their grief around Jay’s death, and ultimately, the role of faith in American politics. This award-winning play by Suzanne Bradbeer is incredibly timely, presenting extraordinarily real characters and a compelling story, as well as a unique vision to present all sides of the separation of church and state debate. The production team is led by women (producer, director, lighting and scene designer, dramaturg, etc.).
